Machine tool Tradition since 1910

Simmons is based in Albany, New York and was founded in 1910. The company has the broadest product line of machine tools for the maintenance and production of railway wheelsets.

In 1984 and 1986, respectively, Simmons acquired the Stanray underfloor wheel truing machine product line and the Farrel Railroad product lines. Both product lines were successfully integrated into the design and production capabilities of Simmons.

In 1992 Niles-Simmons Industrial Equipment GmbH was founded which gave Simmons access to European machine tool and railway technology. Both Simmons and Niles-Simmons combined efforts to develop new turning, milling and turn-mill technology for underfloor wheel profiling applications.

In 2000 Hegenscheidt was acquired and Niles-Simmons-Hegenscheidt GmbH or NSH Machine Tool Group was founded. The acquisition of Hegenscheidt added state-of-the-art underfloor wheel lathe technology to the group as well as ‘high tech’ laser-based measurement of wheelsets in service.

In 2006 the NSH China Technology Industries Co., Ltd. was founded to allow the NSH Machine Tool Group to better serve our growing customer base in China.
